Delete your Wend account and data
You can delete your Wend account, and everything synced to it, yourself in the app at any time, and stop sharing your position by signing out. Without an account, you can turn off the anonymous weekly count in Settings, which deletes its record. This page says how, what is deleted and what is kept, and how to ask us if you no longer have the app.

1. Delete your account in the app
- Open Wend and tap Settings (the gear).
- At the top, under Profile, tap your profile (the row with your avatar and nickname).
- Tap Delete account, then Delete to confirm.
- If Wend asks you to sign in again, sign in to the same account. For your security, an account can only be deleted soon after signing in to it.
This deletes, immediately and for good:
- your sign-in account;
- your profile;
- everything synced to the account: places, settings, hazard reports and points;
- your position and trail, which Wend kept while you were signed in.
Signed in on another phone or tablet too? Sign out of Wend there first. A device that is still signed in can upload its copy again for up to an hour after the account is deleted. If that happens, write to support@wendmap.com and we will remove it. The same goes for your position: a device that is still signed in keeps sending it until you sign out there.
2. Delete only the synced copy
To keep your account but remove what is synced to it, go to Settings → Profile → Delete the synced copy, and confirm. This removes your places, settings, hazard reports, points and shared position from Wend's back end. Your account stays.
A device that stays signed in uploads its own copy again the next time it syncs, and a fresh position within a minute or two of the app being open. To keep the synced copy deleted, sign out of Wend on each of your devices afterwards.
3. Stop sharing your position: sign out
While you are signed in, Wend receives your position while the app is open or navigating, as the sign-in screen told you. There is no separate setting for it: to stop, open your profile in the app (Settings → Profile) and tap Sign out. Your stored position and trail are deleted at once, and nothing more is sent until you sign in again. Do the same on each device you are signed in on.
4. Data on your phone
Deleting your account does not erase what is stored on your phone: your places, recent destinations, hazard reports, settings, nickname, avatar, points and downloaded maps stay there, and Wend keeps working without an account. To erase them, uninstall Wend, or open Android's Settings → Apps → Wend → Storage → Clear storage (the names differ a little from phone to phone).
If Android's backup is switched on, your device's backup in your Google account may also hold a copy of Wend's data. You manage that in Android's backup settings.
5. Without an account: the anonymous weekly count
Without an account, Wend tells its back end at most once a week that it is in use, under a random number made on your phone, and sends nothing else about you (the privacy policy has the details). To delete that record, open Settings in Wend and turn off Count this phone anonymously. The phone deletes its record at once, or, if it is offline, the next time Wend starts with a connection, and checks in no more. Signing in to an account deletes the record too.
If you uninstall Wend or clear its storage instead, the phone forgets its random number (unless Android's backup restores Wend's data onto a new install, section 4), and the record on the back end is deleted by itself about a year after its last check-in. We cannot find it for you by email: it holds nothing that says whose phone it came from.
6. Without the app
If you no longer have Wend, or cannot sign in, email support@wendmap.com:
- from the email address your Wend account uses; or
- if you signed in with Google or Facebook, saying which one, and which email address that account uses.
We delete your sign-in account and all the data stored for it within 30 days, and reply when it is done.
7. Removing Wend from Facebook or Google
Removing Wend under Facebook's Settings → Apps and websites stops you signing in to Wend with Facebook, but it does not delete your Wend account or its data. The same goes for removing Wend's access in your Google Account. To delete them, use section 1 or section 6.
8. What is kept
- When an admin deletes an account for you (after an email request, for example), Wend's admin log keeps one entry with the account's random user id: not your email address, and none of your data. Deleting your account in the app writes no log entry at all.
- When an admin removes your shared position for you, the admin log keeps one entry with your random user id.
- Google may keep deleted data in its own backups for a limited time before it is gone for good.
- Your phone keeps its own copy until you erase it (section 4).
- If you uninstall Wend without turning off the anonymous weekly count, its record stays until about a year after the phone's last check-in (section 5).
Nothing else is kept. The privacy policy has the whole picture.
